St. Luke’s Medical Center has launched the latest premium 1,152-slice computed tomography scanner from Siemens Healthineers.
Dr. Arturo de la Peña, SLMC president and chief executive officer, said the Somatom force dual-source dual-energy CT scan is the first-of-its-kind in health-care that could challenge the conventional CT scan system.
“St. Luke’s is proud to introduce yet another marvel in the health-care industry. As the first health-care institution to bring the high-powered 1,152-slice CT scanner from Siemens Healthineers in the country, we are redefining CT exams through gentler imaging procedures with highly reliable results taken at unparalleled speed,” he said.
In an interview, Oliver Perez, Siemens Healthineers business development manager, told the Manila Standard that De la Peña welcomed the new technology that could view 1,152 pictures of a whole body CT scan than the conventional CT scan’s 526 pictures.
Dr. De la Peña wants a better, faster, safer and “cheaper” CT scan technology, he said.
“Patients are afraid to go through a CT scan because of its radiation. The conventional one for a cardiac scan emits 20 to 30 milliziber, while the new technology can only generate less than one milliziber. You don’t need a high dose of radiation to have a clear image,” Perez said.
“The hospital management is studying the costing. I think there will be an additional of 1,000 to P1,500 fee,” he noted.
In January next year, Siemens Healthineers will be installing another premium 1,152-slice CT scanner at St. Luke’s in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City, he said.
The latest CT scan, which is manufactured in Germany, can scan three times faster than the conventional one, he said.
He, however, declined to tell how much the machine cost.
