According to the Commission on Elections, only qualified people may seek a gun ban exemption by applying for the appropriate certificate of authority at its office.

The poll body said those who would like to avail of the exemption may inquire about the requirements and get their application forms at the Comelec main office from Dec. 1, 2018 to May 29, 2019.

“Unless properly covered by a CA [certificate of authority], any permit to carry firearm/s outside one’s residence or place of business will be ineffective and without force and effect during the election period,” the Comelec said.

The poll body also reminded the public on the ban of employing or engaging the services of private bodyguards.

It said that violation of the said prohibited acts shall constitute an election offense.

The poll body said it would release the final list of candidates for the 2019 midterm elections on Dec. 15.
