For radio DJs, receiving song requests from listeners is an essential part of their job. Listeners would often request their favorite song or whatever tune they want to hear at the moment to pump up their day. Seemingly, everyone has their own interpretations and connection to certain songs. And Barangay  LS  97.1  DJs  Papa DudutMama Emma, and Papa Obet  are no exception.

Barangay LS 97.1 DJs Papa Dudut, Mama Emma, and Papa Obet share their life's soundtrack

Dubbed as“Mr. Love Stories”, Papa Dudut is known for captivating the hearts of many listeners via his long-running show  Barangay Love Stories.  Spoken like a true romantic, he said that Jonas Blue ft. Jack and Jack’s new hit song ‘Rise’ is a current favorite because he thinks it’s the modern version of Phil Collins’ classic song “Against All Odds.”

Mama Emma, on the other hand, gets a kick out of upbeat songs. Hailee Steinfeld’s “Capital Letters” is always on her playlist during her daily train rides.

“It gives me positive vibes, ‘yung tipong gusto mong yumakap sa makakasabay mo sa MRT,” she jested.

Being the Barangay’s “Hugot Queen,” she proudly shares in her program  Three Play  that she commutes every day just like them and that she gets  hugot  inspirations from the people she observes in public transportation.

Papa Obet, also known on-air as “Mr. Love Songs,” mixes daydreaming with his playlist during his commutes to work. The favorite song that he imagines performing in front of a large crowd is his own version of “On the Wings of Love.”

“In my imagination, it’s a nice feeling when people sing along and they clap their hand at the same time,” he said adding that he gets a little carried away and sings along before he realizes that he is on the bus with other passengers.

Meanwhile, when asked if they have their own theme song, Rivermaya’s ‘Umaaraw Umuulan’ is Papa Dudut’s pick.

“Whatever situation you are in, Papa Dudut will accompany you in the ups and downs of your life,” he said.

For Mama Emma, Zac Efron and Zendaya’s duet entitled “Rewrite the Stars” in the hit musical The Greatest Showman speaks volumes. “I believe that you are the captain of your ship. Ikaw ang kapitan ng iyong kapalaran. Kapag alam mong nandyan na, kunin mo na,” the “Hugot Queen”  urged.

A classic, Papa Obet chose “I Believe I Can Fly” by R. Kelly which relays an inspiring message to believe in oneself. “Kapag bilib ka sa sarili mo at kinakaya mo, yung confidence mo, you can reach your goal,” he encouraged.
