Teaching communities how to fish

Residents of Atimonan, Quezon are benefitting from livelihood training programs spearheaded by Atimonan One Energy, Inc. (A1E) in partnership with non-government organizations (NGOs) and government agencies to help increase their productivity and be self-sufficient. These include handicraft training for select barangays in Atimonan recently (“bamboo negosyo: kabuhayang kawayanan sa kanayunan”); wellness project for marginalized members of barangays New Carinay and Sitio Tabuan, who acquired week-long knowledge and skills training on massage therapy (Seen here in photo) ; and a link-up with Habitat for Humanity Philippines Foundation for the New Carinay housing project. Habitat and A1E conducted vocational training programs on masonry and commercial painting for the latter. “These training initiatives are part of A1E’s plans to develop the entrepreneurial skills of the residents of the Atimonan. These will eventually provide additional sources of income for the people in these communities, ”explained Litz Santana, VP and head, external affairs, Meralco PowerGen Corp.
