Government set to buy diesel from Russia, others

The Energy Department on Tuesday assured that the government through PNOC Exploration Corp. will move forward with plans to import diesel from Russia and other non-members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries next month.

“It will push through. It’s up to PNOC EC if they’re going to adopt the recommendation but our recommendation is to have the sale and purchase agreement executed within the next 10-15 days from the date of the approval. The recommendation will be discussed during their board meeting on July 2,” Energy Undersecretary Leonido Pulido III said.

The department is pushing for stockpiling to secure the country’s oil requirements amid global uncertainties.

Pulido said the department had come out with the recommended framework that would serve as the guide to PNOC EC’s diesel importation plans.

“The framework is composed of what the selection process should look like, what are the national standards they should be following, how’s the distribution process,” he said.
