Taiwan is considering to extend further the visa-free courtesy given to the Philippines to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two trading partners.
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines said the measure opened new opportunities for both partners, increasing visitors arrivals from the Philippines and exposing Filipinos to the culture and heritage of Taiwan.
“This measure had a definite positive impact to both countries. We are now negotiating with MECO (Manila Economic and Cultural Office) to help us make this reciprocal, but nevertheless, Taiwan is seriously considering the extend the courtesy,” said TECO economic division director Alfred Wang.
He added the Taiwanese government was deliberating on the length of extension before the expiry of the arrangement next month.
The visa-free courtesy was introduced as an experimental diplomatic courtesy to Filipino travelers on November 1, 2017.
