Former Ambassador Manuel Lopez stepped down from the board of Manila Electric Co., after serving the company for 32 years.
Lopez, who served as ambassador to Japan from December 2010 to June 2016, first became a director of Meralco board in April 1986. He went on to become chairman and chief executive of Meralco from July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2010, and chairman from July 1, 2010 to May 28, 2012.
Meralco officials and employees gave tribute to Lopez at the stockholders’ meeting Tuesday.
“We acknowledge the significant contribution of the former CEO Manolo Lopez to Meralco. He has been quite an inspiration and we would like to thank him for his service,” Meralco president Oscar Reyes said.
Lopez was replaced by Elpidio Ibañez as representative of the Lopez Group in the Meralco board.
