A fun run for cause

Why do I like artistas? Let me count the ways.

It starts with the superficial, if her face can launch a thousand ships, that is a factor. If he has a well-built physique and not your ordinary handsome, and can give you doses of kilig and heat, he will have my support, definitely. But when someone supports a worthy cause and it is done not for publicity sake, this artista will have my respect and devotion, forever.

One fine actress, who we get to watch every afternoon in Araw, Gabi is a perfect example of a showbiz personality giving her time, efforts and love for the greater good. Ara Mina and her well-meaning friends will embark on “Tara Na Sa Arena 2018” tomorrow at the Philippine Sports Arena, in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Clad in all black number, Dolce and Gabbana top and denims, Ara explains the reason for the fun run, “It is for the benefit of Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines. My youngest sister, Mina Princess Klenk, we fondly call her Batching, has Down syndrome.”

Ara Mina and her sister Batching lead a fun run at the Philippine Arena Complex for the benefit of Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines.

Mina carries on, “She is my lucky charm. Let me share this recollection, when she was not born yet, pumila talaga ako sa audition para sa Ang TV. Grabe ang pila, ang haba, sobrang init. I fainted while ‘in the line.’ ‘Pag gising ko na lang, kaharap ko na si Sir Johnny Manahan and he was asking me if I am okay. Sadly, hindi ako nakapasa. When Batching was born, that was the time I auditioned for That’s Entertainment, and nakapasa ako and nagtuloy-tuloy ang aking showbiz career. Since dumating siya sa buhay namin, ang swerte ko sa karera, tuloy-tuloy.”

Apart from her celebrity friends who will run with her, a bazaar and concert are some of the adds on participants should look forward to.

Ace runner and coach Rio dela Cruz, a partner and supporter of the fun run says, “I think this is the first time that there will be a fun run happening in the North. Maganda ang takbuhan dito sa Philippine Arena. For this one, there will be a 500 meter, 3km., 5km and 10km running course.”

Ara shares, ‘‘May kids with down syndrome rin who will participate in the 500 meter event. We are starting the run at 5:00 p.m. para tamang-tama lang yung kondisyon to run.  Ang health and wellness of the people with Down syndrome ang highlighted dito eh. We want to show every one that they are active, disciplined, friendly and sporty.”

The dramatic actress has been a staunch supporter of the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines, she relates, “Dati, nag-concert ako, sila ang naging beneficiary. Every year, since the concert that happened twelve years ago, lagi ko silang sinusoportahan. Ngayon nga lang ulit na may ganito, and I do hope marami ang sumama at maki-takbo with us especially the families who have kids like Batching.”
