The art of suman

The Suman Art at SM City Masinag is a celebration of Antipolo City’s beloved delicacy called Sumansa Ibos. It is a variety of Suman or local rice cake made from glutinous rice; wrapped in vertical coils of buli or buri palm leaves; dyed yellow to look more­ ­  enticing then cooked or steamed in coconut milk. For 2018, the Sumansa Ibos is presented as a huge canvas that depicts a collage of the iconic symbols of what the City of Antipolo is known for—the Antipolo Cathedral, HinulugangTaktak falls and popular delicacies suman, kasoy and mangga. The Sumansa Ibos artwork measures 8ft x 8ft and is painted with food-grade colorants that are totally edible. Shown in photo during the unveiling are 2,000 pieces of Antipolo’s popular local delicacy made as an artwork with food-grade colorants are presented at SM City Masinag as part of the annual Maytime Festival of the city.
