CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga—The time-honored virtue of honesty is still being practiced among the young policemen here.
Two policemen were commended by their commander for their moral upbringing after they returned a handbag owned by a retired United States army doctor containing important valuables and P40,000 in cash in Sitio Labasan, Barangay Sabang, Baler, Aurora on Monday.
Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, regional director of the Police Regional Office III, identified the policemen as SPO1 Venancio Asuncion and SPO1 Juan Carlo Estacio Querijeri, both assigned to the municipal police station of Baler.
Corpus said Asuncion and Querijeri were patrolling and directing traffic at barangay Sabang in line with the local police’s summer vacation program when they saw the handbag unattended.
The policemen inspected the handbag of Dr. Villamor Parillia, the retired US army doctor who lives in Bagong Sikap, Talavera, Nueva Ecija, Corpus said.
Besides the money, the bag also contained a gold-plated Rolex watch, six pieces of diamonds, four cheque books, and ATM cards.
The handbag was returned to Parillia, who also commended the policemen for their good deed, Corpus said.
“The moral education taught to the policemen, specially the training of their heart and mind towards the good, is not in vain,” the regional police chief added.
