‘Tech research needs to reach people, LGUs’

LOS BAÑOS, Laguna—Research on science and technology must go down to the people, officials of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development said Monday.

“It is vital that research go down to end-users. I commend our productive researchers,” said PCAARRD Acting Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo Ebora during the staging of the agency’s regular media conference for its research in collaboration with other institutions at the DOST-PCAARRD Innovation and Technology Center here.

“Government money is being spent for the researchers. So, the people must benefit from them,” said the agency’s Deputy Executive Director for Research and Development, Dr. Edwin Villar.

For his part, Dr. Melvin Carlos, Officer-in-Charge and Deputy Executive Director for Administration, Resource Management and Support Services, said: “We want the institutionalization of PCAARRD projects. Communities must part, and LGUs [must be] embracing them.”

“We express our profound gratitude to all mediamen for spreading PCAARRD technology researches and helping us reach more people,” Marita Carlos, Applied Communication Division director, told the attending journalists.

Presented research in the conference were GIS-based Inventory and Sustainability Assessment of Rubber and Cacao in Major Production Areas of the Philippines; Longline Culture of Mussels; and Detection Kit for Early Mortality Syndrome in Shrimps.

About 30 science and technology newsmen attended the presentation.
