Caritas Manila, in partnership with Radio Veritas 846, is holding its annual Alay Kapwa telethon on March 26, Holy Monday, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Alay Kapwa is a Lenten Evangelization and fundraising program of the Philippine Roman Catholic Church for social services for the less fortunate. Funds raised from the program will go to Caritas Damayan—the preventive health and disaster program of Caritas Manila—and will be used to help those affected by natural and man-made calamities, and to finance disaster prevention and mitigation programs.
Proceeds of Alay Kapwa Lenten 2017 collection were used to help in the rehabilitation efforts in Marawi, as well as aid victims of Surigao earthquake, typhoons Urduja and Vinta, and various fires and other disasters in Metro Manila.
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle appeals to the faithful to support Alay Kapwa 2018.
“With the increasing number and magnitude of disasters and calamities being responded by Caritas Damayan, our Alay Kapwa funds get immediately depleted,” Cardinal Tagle said in his pastoral letter.
“It is therefore our hope that we will be more generous in almsgiving this season of Lent.”
