First Gen still keen on first LNG plant

First Gen Corp. of the Lopez Group remains keen on developing the country’s first integrated liquefied natural gas project, an official said Wednesday.

First Gen chief finance officer Emmanuel Singson told reporters the company was optimistic it could comply with government’s schedule of holding the groundbreaking for the planned LNG facility by June.

The department wants construction of the $2-billion terminal to start within the year.

“We have already prepared our site so we can easily figure it out,” Singson said.

First Gen submitted an unsolicited proposal to Philippine National Oil Co. to develop the LNG facility.

First Gen also submitted a separate letter of interest to the Department of Energy, which has come out with the rules for the construction of LNG facilities.

Singson said First Gen was in talks with potential joint venture partners.
