Tracy Dizon brings color to New York runways

The Lotus Blouse made of Charmense Silk and Vietnamese traditional fabric paired with soft pink square pants complete the Lotus Flower look.

Filipino streetwear designer Tracy Dizon has a busy schedule this year as she prepares to bring her eye-catching and vibrant designs to three New York Fashion Week 2018 events.

Dizon envisioned a Hanoi dream girl who embodies the classical Vietnamese beauty in her pieces.

Dizon joined the recently concluded NYFW event organized by Art Hearts Fashion on Feb. 8 to 11. She’s also included in the upcoming Fashion Designer & Craft Makers Network FDC Collections Showcase on April 28, and in the Society Fashion Week on Sept. 7 to 9, where she plans to unveil a collection inspired by Philippine pop culture.

The invite follows the quirky milliner’s recent participation in the Fashion Week Brooklyn Spring/Summer Show 2018 last October where she debuted to the international fashion scene her highly praised Miss Hanoi: La Douleur Exquise collection.

The Miss Hanoi collection is reflective of Dizon’s year-long escapade in Hanoi, Vietnam where she fell in love with the country’s rich culture and locality. It was originally showcased during the 64th edition of Manila FAME’s, the country’s premier lifestyle and design event, Manila Wear brand.

Dizon envisioned a Hanoi dream girl, the eponymous Miss Hanoi, who embodied the classical Vietnamese beauty as she created her pieces, ranging from traditional Vietnamese Ao Dai dresses, military uniforms, and contemporary clothing inspired by Vietnamese history and imageries.

Among her inspirations are the Hanoi Ceramic Mosaic Mural, the carts of Vietnamese flower merchants around Hanoi, pho noodles in ceramic ware, and stamps stores along the Old Quarter in the Hoan Kiem District.

“It was an unexpected life changing epiphany—traveling to Hanoi and getting creatively inspired by the whole visual, cultural, and emotional experience, as a young woman going on a solo adventure in Hanoi,” related Dizon. “But as a designer, I wanted to share that whole journey through my fashion and millinery design.”

Besides clothing pieces, Dizon also created matching head pieces for the collection. Notably, before the Miss Hanoi collection, she specialized in unique hats and head pieces under her “Tiara by Tracy Dizon” millinery line.

Dizon has been a member of Manila FAME’s Manila Wear brand since 2016 and was mentored by renowned fashion designer Josie Natori, who urged her to expand her product segments to include clothing and other pieces other than hats and head pieces gearing towards developing a lifestyle brand.

“Manila Wear has provided me strong business foundation and an opportunity to shine in the global stage of export,” shared the fashion designer.
