BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—A state university professor here recently received a Presidential Award for his innovative project.

Professor Adornado Vergara of the Nueva Vizcaya State University received the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award from President Rodrigo Duterte.

The award was given during the recent Gawad Career Executive Service and the 2017 Outstanding Government Workers Conferment Ceremony held at Malacañang.

Vergara developed a locally-available nomograph for sizing a centrifugal pump as a turbine for generating electric power, an alternate to the more expensive imported micro-hydro turbine that rural communities in the province could not afford.

The professor, who hails from barangay Bakir in Bagabag town, also made a biogas technology that enables livestock raisers to transform organic wastes into fertilizer, a generator for electric power, and a pump for irrigation, which are compliant with the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.

Vergara, the Department Chairman of Agricultural Engineering and Assistant Professor III at the NVSU Bayombong campus, was recognized “for his innovative work as a professor and researcher, translating theory into usable, high-impact technology.”
