Tenorio says Gin Kings face uphill climb this conference

AS the 43rd season of the Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup starts for the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings, the team that won last season’s Governors Cup crown will try to find their form starting with their first game.

This is what’s in store for the team, now that the veteran cager Jayjay Helterbrand has retired.

For three-time Finals MVP LA Tenorio, it will be an uphill climb for the team.

“We are in the process of getting ready and preparing dahil panibagong chemistry ito,” said Tenorio.

There are new players like Jet Manuel of the University of the Philippines, and Art de la Cruz, who was acquired from Blackwater last September.

But dela Cruz will not be seeing action anytime soon because he re-injured his Achilles tendon while practicing for Barangay Ginebra.

Tenorio graced the final day of Globe Telecom’s TM Basketball Para sa Bayan grassroots clinics last Saturday at the Mauway gym at Nueve de Pebrero St. in Mandaluyong City.

The Gin Kings got Dela Cruz in a trade that involved Raymond Aguilar, Chris Ellis and Dave Marcelo. Peter Atencio

Tenorio will team up with Scottie Thompson to man the backcourt for the Gin Kings. Both are known for providing genius playmaking both at halfcourt sets and in transition.

The team is also blessed with the presence of Greg Slaughter, who stands at 7-feet.

He is paired with the 6-foot-9 Japeth Aguilar and this gives Ginebra twin towers in the post.
