THE Far Eastern University Tamaraws still have a good chance of making it to the Final Four.
And they have to win their last three games in the 80th University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.
Coach Olsen Racela said their fate will now depend on how they will fare in their last assignments in the second round.
“Those games are very important. Right now, we’re tied at no. 4. We have to get as many wins as possible,” said Racela after their 56-59 setback to the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons.
Because of this, the UP moved to a share of fourth place with their 5-6 record with FEU.
On Sunday, FEU clashes with University of the East at 2 p.m., the first of its last three matches for the second round.
Later, the Adamson Falcons, who are close to the third Final Four seat at 8-4, meet that Fighting Maroons at 4 p.m.
In today’s games at the Araneta Coliseum, the unbeatean Ateneo Blue Eagles will meet the winless University of Santo Tomas Tigers at 2 p.m., while the La Salle Green Archers take on the National University Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
The Tams’ next games are against National University and Adamson.
Last year, the Tamaraws advanced to the playoff round in Season 79 after finishing third in the team standings with 9-5 record.
Then, the Tams eventually lost to the Ateneo in the Final Four.
Against the UE Warriors, they will miss injured Richard Escoto for the second straight game.
The 6’4” Escoto, who is the Tams’ top power forward, is recovering from an ankle injury. Peter Atencio
