Vizcaya posts growth on quarry tax collection

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—The provincial government has dramatically increased its sand and gravel tax collection this year following its aggressive initiative to impose tax payments from private contractors.

Rhoda Moreno, provincial treasurer, said Nueva Vizcaya has collected more than P15 million in sand and gravel taxes as of August, which has already surpassed their 2017 target of P11 million.

“This is a result of our intensified and aggressive monitoring of our quarry sites in the province. This has been our focus for improvement in the past years,” she said.

To strengthen their collection, Moreno said the provincial government hired workers and deployed them at various quarry sites as checkers.

She said the sand and gravel tax is now one of the major tax generators of the province, aside from real property taxes and income from its five public hospitals.

“Out of the total budget allotted for our public hospitals, 70 percent are spent while 30 percent serves as our income,” Moreno said.
