BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—A peasant group called SAMANA-NV has announced its plan to conduct a fact-finding mission in five villages of Kasibu town where reports of mass evacuations took place after the military clashed with NPA guerillas on Sept. 1.
“Together with human rights organizations, a fact-finding mission will be conducted in barangays Catarawan, Dine, Kakidugen, Pao and Biyoy in the town of Kasibu to investigate incidents of evacuations [‘bakwit’],” reads an open letter written in Filipino. It was signed by an Alfonso Shog-uy in behalf of SAMANA-NV.
The letter also invited the public, especially trained paralegals, to take an active part in human rights education. The group aims to conduct a Basic Human Rights Orientation during its planned visit on Sept. 16-17, 2017.
