BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—The provincial board here has praised a young scientist who brought home a gold medal in the 2017 International Young Scientists Conference and Exhibit recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Cyril Francis Torres Wakit of barangay Darapidap in Aritao town, an incoming Grade 12 student of the Philippine Science High School Cagayan Valley campus in this town, received the honor and congratulatory resolution from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan after his thesis bagged the gold medal in the science event.
Entitled “Invitro Bio-Efficacy of the Mycelial-Cell-Free Extract of Beauveria Bassiana Against Bacterial Soft Rot Disease (Erwinia Carotova),” Wakit’s thesis caught the attention of the exhibit judges.
“He brought honor to the country, especially in our province and the PSHS-CV campus when he was awarded the Gold Medal in the category he participated in, one of the few won by the Philippine Team,” Vice Governor Lambert Galima Jr. said.
Wakit, a consistent Dean’s Lister, is one of the ten qualifiers for the Philippine Young Scientist Team that represented the country in the International Junior Scientists Exhibit held at the Royal Military College in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia last July 10 to 15.
