S. Pablo event set for ‘old techies’

SM City San Pablo has prepared an upbeat “Oldies but Techies” event to keep senior citizens connected to the modern world.

Niña Wong, SM San Pablo PR manager, said: “It’s innate for Filipinos to sing and everyone knows how have fun with karaoke and with the popularity of smartphones its nice to teach our elderlies on how a portable rechargeable wireless bluetooth speaker microphone works. It’s really like a new skill set for our seniors knowing that they can do karaoke anytime anywhere.”

She said the technology refresher program, which is implemented in all SM City’s supermalls nationwide, is one of the many programs for senior citizens under SM Cares in partnership with its mall tenants.

In SM City San Pablo, they have partnered with Ace Hardware in teaching the seniors on how the portable mic works. The event was held in the Cyberzone area and it was a fun afternoon filled with music. Some of the shoppers showed support by singing along the senior participants.

“We really want to make our grandparents feel welcome and special from the moment they enter our malls until even they leave,” Wong said.

To date, the mall has granted free movie pass for seniors in the city daily, and other social programs benefiting the marginalized and disadvantaged sectors here.
