Dragons scorch Chiefs, 70 to 60

ADAMA Diakhite’s inside game carried the Diliman College Blue Dragons to a 70-60 whipping of the Arellano University Chiefs last Saturday in the 15th Fr. Martin Cup Division 2 basketball tournament at the San Beda-Manila campus in Mendiola.

The 6’8” Diakhite, who had 20 points, struck hard twice from underneath in the closing minute of the third period and this helped propel the Blue Dragons to their third straight win.

Diakhite’s layup followed by a triple from Johnnel Bauzon allowed the Blue Dragons to move away, 49-45.

A 9-2 blast in the fourth quarter, capped by Joseph Brutas’ three-pointer, saw the Blue Dragons enjoying a 63-51 spread with 5:53 remaining.

Rickson Gerero showed the way with 24 points for the Blue Dragons, who took the solo lead in Group B of the senior division.

The Chiefs, led by transferee Ian Alban with 16 points, took their first loss in three matches.

In the junior division, the Diliman Preparatory School Baby Dragons drew 17 points from Patrick Bianan as they stopped the San Beda-Rizal B Red Cubs, 90-69 for win no. 2.

San Beda-Rizal A trounced the Letran Squires, 76-47, to pick up their first triumph in two games.

Manila Patriotic School claimed its third straight victory following an 83-67 demolition of La Salle Greenhills.
