CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna —The No. 2 most wanted man in the Calabarzon region was killed in an encounter with authorities in Sariaya, Quezon, Batangas police reported Tuesday.
Jose Contreras, alias “Dayo,” was slain by operatives of the Philippine National Police Batangas Provincial Intelligence Branch, Batangas SWAT, Quezon PIB and Sariaya police after a manhunt that ended at around midnight on Monday in Purok 3, Barangay Concepcion Palasan in Sariaya.
In a report to Calabarzon Police Regional Director Chief Supt. Ma. O Aplasca, Batangas Provincial Director Senior Supt. Randy Peralta said the authorities were serving a warrant of arrest for criminal case 20018 issued by Judge Albert A. Kalalo of RTC Branch 4 in Batangas City.
Contreras was wanted for murder, and Peralta said he was considered a high-value target by police in the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon.
Authorities said the suspect resisted arrest and suffered gunshot wounds on different parts of his body. Contreras was brought to the Candelaria Medical Center in Quezon but died while undergoing treatment, doctors there said.
