Noveleta earns seal as friendly to children

The government of Noveleta, led by Mayor Dino Reyes Chua, was among the 10 Cavite local government units conferred with the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance award.

The Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children, spearheaded by Department of Social Welfare and Development and Department of the Interior and Local Government, conferred the award at the Laguna Capitol grounds in Sta. Cruz, Laguna on Tuesday.

Chua received the plaque of recognition from Manuel Gotis, CESO III, DILG-R4-A and Leticia Diokno, regional director of DSWD-R4-A.

The recognition was based on the results of the child-friendly local governance audit conducted on Region 4A’s cities and towns by the Inter-Agency Monitoring Task Force as validated by RCWC chaired by DSWD-R4-A.

Other cities and municipalities awarded from Cavite were Imus and Bacoor City, Magallanes, Amadeo, Maragondon, Indang, Naic, Rosario and Mendez.

Based on a DILG audit last year, 75.96 percent of municipalities and cities were eligible for the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance.

To be eligible for the SCFLG, local programs must follow criteria set by the DILG on health, education, protection, and children’s participation.

These include a decrease in child deaths, ensuring elementary school completion, and absence of child labor, among others.

The Philippines is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
