TUGUEGARAO CITY—A 270-meter bridge project that will facilitate countryside development in Cagayan Province is now in progress, Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Director Melanio C. Briosos said Tuesday.

Briosos said construction of the P182-million Tallang bridge project has started in Baggao town, located in the heart of Cagayan.

“The construction of the permanent all-weather structure will provide convenience in transporting agricultural and commercial products to major economic hubs in urban areas and other neighboring provinces,” Briosos said.

The Tallang bridge along Baybayog-Baggao-Dalin-Sta. Margarita Road will connect the less-developed barangays of Baggao to nearby urban centers, he added. It would spur rapid growth in terms of economic and tourism activities in the rural area.

Baggao is endowed with vast natural resources an untapped tourist attractions.

Engineer Jose Tobias, Chief of the DPWH-2 Construction Division, said the bridge will have nine spans across the Paranan River with a carriageway width of 7.32 meters, with both abutments and eight piers utilizing bored piles as foundation at a cost of P182,095,303.86.

Tobias said the erection of the bridge will also enable growth in employment, business, and trade and promote peace and order in the area.

“It will be an all-weather structure, meaning it can endure strong winds and streams of water during typhoons, and is projected to be completed and opened to the public by May 2018,” Tobias added.
