2 lanes on C-6 Dike Rd. opened

The Department of Public Works and Highways has opened to motorists the newly completed two lanes on the Laguna Lake Highway phase 2 project, formerly known as C-6 Dike Road.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said the P36.7-billion Laguna Lake Highway project was aimed to provide a high-standard highway that will speed up traffic between the southern part of Metro Manila and Laguna, as well as a dike that would mitigate flooding in the western coastal communities along Laguna Lake.

The new lanes, stretching from Napindan to Cabuyao in Laguna, marked the first phase of improvements on the highway under the Duterte administration.

The road, which runs along the northwestern shoreline of the freshwater lake, was a project started under the Arroyo administration and became accessible to light vehicles in 2009.

The new highway starts from Bicutan in Taguig City, connecting to the proposed C-6 road. It traverses southwards, passing the city boundaries of Taguig, Parañaque and Muntinlupa in the southern part of Metro Manila, and then continues further south, passing the cities of San Pedro, Biñan, Sta. Rosa, Cabuyao and Calamba in Laguna.

The phase 3 project will connect Calamba and Los Baños in Laguna and will be completed sometime in 2019, Villar added.
