A NEW batch of talented players are expected to rise up from the ranks of the Arellano University Chiefs.
Now that four key players, led by Jiovani Jalalon, are no longer around, coach Jerry Codinera is turning to the team’s other veterans.
These veterans—led by Kent Salado, Allen Enriquez, Brylle Meca, Elie Ongolo-Ongolo, Lervin Flores and the returning Renzil Rivera—will carry the fight for the Chiefs in the coming 93rd season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) men’s basketball tournament.
“We have addressed the adjustments that we needed to do after my seniors graduated,” said Codinera.
The graduates include Jalalon, Julius Cadavis and Donald Gumaru.
On the other hand, Fil-American Zach Nicholls decided to forego his final year, and opted to go to Guam instead.
One major adjustments involves 5’9” point guard Kent Salado.
Last season, Salado played a supporting role to Jalalon, who was the Chiefs’ main offensive and director of plays on court.
With the two around, the Chiefs had little trouble reaching the finals of the Season 92 tournament.
With the two combining on court, the Chiefs were able to stand their ground against the San Beda Red Lions.
Team B players like Marvin Taywan, Levi de la Cruz and Arnie Padilla, a big man who gained residency, will also be around to help out.
As the coming season progresses, it will be up to the coaches to find out who their go-to scorers can be to help Salado shoulder the scoring load.
