PUERTO PRINCESA, Palawan—Cristie Angeles (pictured left), SM Foundation assistant vice president for Livelihood and Outreach Programs, recently addressed the 139th Batch of SM Foundation Inc.’s Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmers’ Training Program participants at the Palawan Research and Experimental Station (PRES) in Barangay Sta. Monica here.
The orientation program drew farmers and 4Ps (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program) beneficiaries from 22 barangays (pictured right).
Angeles gave the participants an overview of the program and set the expectations for the participants from the training. Harbest Agribusiness president Arsenio Barcelona and field instructor Conrad Calderon were present to answer technical questions from the farmers.
The season-long training program aims to ensure food sufficiency and empower marginal farmers to become entrepreneurs. Through the training program, they learn the latest farming technologies, enabling them to increase their yield and improve the quality of their produce.
Librada Fuentes, officer-in-charge of the PRES, delivered the welcome remarks. Inspirational messages were given by Zyrille Sespene, SM City Puerto Princesa Palawan Building Administration Officer; Tito Murcia, City Agriculture Office Supervising Agriculturist; Kenneth Garcellano, PSWD 4Ps CityLink Representative; and City Councilor Victor Oliveros, Chairman on Agriculture, Food and Fisheries.
