GMA Heart of Asia launches 2017’s critically acclaimed Korean thriller drama, Innocent Defendant, which stars Ji Sung as Julius Park, Uhm Ki Joon as twins Reggie Cha and Ronnie Cha, Kwon Yuri as Courtney, Uhm Hyun Kyung as Sandy, and Oh Chang Suk as Norman.
Premiering last Monday, Kapuso fans will witness how a virtuous prosecutor finds himself on the wrong side of prison bars.
In the story, Julius Park is at the top of his game as a prosecutor for being fiercely dedicated to his job and keen to implement strict punishment. At home, he transforms into a loving father and affectionate husband. When his family is murdered, he wakes up in a cell four months after and is charged with the crime. As he nurses his temporary amnesia, Julius must prove his innocence and seek justice for his wife and daughter.
However, his pursuit for justice lies futile as Chamyoung Group successor Ronnie Cha takes control. When Ronnie killed a woman, Julius went after him and his twin brother Reggie kept pressuring him to surrender. Ronnie, acting on emotions, kills his brother and assumes his identity to escape punishment. To keep his charade, he must do everything to keep Julius out of his radar.
Joining the narrative are Courtney, the righteous yet incompetent lawyer who will take over Julius’s case; Norman, a best friend to Julius who took his case and sentenced him with death penalty; and Sandy, a woman who was orphaned due to Chamyoung Group’s abuse of power and eventually marrying into its family through Reggie Cha.
How will their past tie up with the present? Whose secrets are crucial to Julius’s freedom? Will Julius find out who is behind all his misfortunes?
