CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela—The Department of Agriculture recently gave P1.19 billion in assistance to this province to boost local farmers’ agricultural production.
The funding assistance was given by Agriculture Secretary Manuel Piñol in his recent visit to this province.
The fund was allocated as follows: P325 million for rice program, P7.14 million for livestock, P26 million for the High Value Crop Development Project, P78 million for corn and cassava development program, P26 million for the Philippine Rural Development Project, P229 million for farm to market roads, P80 million for the fisheries sector, and P50,000 for the Philippine Carabao Center.
Gov. Faustino Dy said the assistance will be a great help for farmers in improving their production and recovering their losses brought by the recent typhoons that struck parts of the province.
Dy said Piñol also vowed to provide P100 million for the credit assistance program for farmers with a minimal interest of 6 percent per annum.
He said the loan assistance will be made available by farmers’ cooperatives where members can avail of a P50,000 maximum loan.
Meanwhile, Cauayan City will build a P400-million sports complex to host the 2019 Cagayan Valley Athletic Association meet.
Mayor Bernard Dy said the documents for the sports complex projects are now being processed to fast-track its construction, which is expected to start this year.
He said a loan from a government bank will help augment the financial resources of the city government to build the project in Barangay Cabaruan.
The funding requirements will be allocated for the construction of the sports complex and its facilities with P300 million while P100 million will be used to fund the concreting of access roads and lighting facilities.
“We hope that by the middle of the year, the construction will start and is expected to be completed by the last quarter of 2018,” Dy said.
