LA TRINIDAD, Benguet—The Cordillera office of the National  Irrigation Administration will conduct a public bidding for 20 packages of works within the various portions of the Upper Chico Irrigation System or UCRIS amounting to at least P170 million so the agency could serve more areas.

Engineer John Socalo, NIA-CAR regional irrigation manager, said the bid documents are still undergoing review by the NIA central office technical personnel and representatives of the World Bank, to make sure  the conditions and other procedures will comply with the provisions of Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Law.

He said the contract for the overall rehabilitation of UCRIS totaling P425 million was unilaterally terminated by the government because of the failure of the contractor, Macbelt Policarpio, to finish the programmed works even when it was granted several extensions to complete the pending works.

“We are optimistic that we will be able to bid out the remaining works this coming October once the review of the bid documents by our personnel in the central office is finalized,” Socalo stressed.
