The telecom company led by businessman Dennis Uy is looking at acquiring players outside of Metro Manila this year in a bid to expand its footprint nationwide.
“We’re still looking because acquisition is one way to grow faster. So, whether a cable company, a small telco or a mid-size telco, we are interested,” Converge ICT Solutions chief operating officer Jesus Romero told reporters.
“There are ongoing discussions,” Romero said.
Romero said the company already acquired a small telecom company in Angeles City, Pampanga last year. “Anybody who wants to exit, we are interested,” he said.
Romero said the company would spend P1.5 billion this year to expand its access network, IT backbone and platform.
Converge laid out more than 6,000 kilometers of fiber optic, servicing clients from Baguio City to Batangas.
Converge’s pure fiber optic offering in Metro Manila already covers cities such as Valenzuela, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa. It plans to further expand its reach by putting up networks in Nasugbu, Batangas and San Fernando, La Union.
“With Converge fiber broadband products, whether you are at home or at the office or your place of business, your Internet experience will surely be made better. And the best part of it is that it costs the same as your DSL connection, but made faster,” Uy, the president and chief executive of Cobverge ICT said.
The company expects to earn about P3 billion this year, up from last year’s more than P2 billion.
Converge ICT is offering FiberX, which offers internet speed of up to 100 megabits per second with no data cap. It also offers FiberXtreme with speed of up to 500 Mbps and iBIZ for small and large enterprises.
“With FiberX, there is no more data cap, to Internet usage. We feel we will just be short-changing our customers if we put a limit to their Internet usage,” Romero said.
