LTFRB offers aid to crash victims

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya—Officials of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Friday visited the survivors and kin of those who perished during the bus crash in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, which claimed 32 lives.

The LTFRB team, led by Edgar Soriano, visited various hospitals in the province where most of the 46 surviving crash victims are being treated.

Soriano said they are in the process of determining the assistance to be given to the victims based on the guidelines of the agency’s passenger insurance program.

“We are calling on the relatives of the victims to visit our office in front of the provincial capitol in Bayombong town on Saturday and Tuesday to facilitate the processing and release of your passenger insurance benefit,” Soriano said.

He also advised the patients to prepare legal documents to facilitate the immediate release of their insurance benefits, such as death certificates, residence certificates or “cedula,” and medical certificates for those being treated, among others.

Most of the crash survivors are confined at the Veterans Regional Hospital in Bayombong, the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Hospital in Bambang town, the Dupax District Hospital in Dupax del Sur town, and the Indigenous People’s Hospital in Aritao town.

The LTFRB will also be offering a Catholic Mass at the VRH for all victims of the crash on Tuesday, when the 45-seater Leomaric bus plunged 80 feet into a ravine at the Dalton Pass section of the Maharlika Highway here.
