BALANGA CITY—Mariveles Mayor AJ Concepcion assured the town’s full support for this year’s Bataan Freedom Run and Freedom Trail, saying the twin events highlight the historical role of his town during World War 2.
“Aside from rekindling heroism, Bataan Freedom Run and Freedom bring to the consciousness the historicalness of Mariveles,” the young mayor said. “We will provide all the logistical support for the success of these events.”
Mariveles is the starting point of both races. The town was also one of the two starting points of the infamous Death March. The Bataan Freedom Run in Mariveles is on April 2 with five categories: 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, 5 km, and 1 km.
For his part, Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia said: “These events can be a springboard to rediscover the role of Bataan during World War, especially for the younger generation.”
