CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna—Philippine National Police personnel who joined the Drug Enforcement teams and the Counter-Intelligence Task Force have undergone drug tests here.

Police Regional Office Calabarzon Director Chief Supt Ma. O Aplasca said this is part of the screening process and complete background investigation of the recruits “to ensure the selection of only the best and most qualified personnel for the new unit.”

Aplasca said the new unit shall be composed of personnel “of unsullied service reputation, unblemished record, and a character beyond suspicion as a minimum requirement.”

The PNP Drug Enforcement team will be under the Drug Enforcement Group that was reorganized from the defunct PNP Anti-Illegal Drugs Group, and has the mission and function to be the lead unit in police anti-drug operations.

The unit has its own Counter-Intelligence Task Force embedded in its intelligence section to provide a fully functional internal disciplinary mechanism against possible irregularities, lapses and abuses, Aplasca said.

He reminded the unit that police-initiated anti-illegal operations must be conducted in the presence of barangay officials and media representatives.
