TUGUEGARAO CITY—Family planning and responsible parenthood advocates here were shocked by news that a 35-yearold woman strangled three of her four children to death in Burgos, Isabela last week.
“It’s a very sad news, tragic,” says Cagayan Valley Regional Director Angelito S. Obcena of the Commission on Population on Friday.
Asked if the killing has something to do with poverty and population control issues, Obcena said “there are varied factors that should be investigated by a competent professional—in this case, a psychiatrist—to ascertain a conclusion.”
A source familiar with the incident told Manila Standard the woman may have suffered from postpartum psychosis, a known psychiatric emergency among women who just gave birth.
