A SECOND meeting between Rain or Shine and its former coach Yeng Guiao and his NLEX side is set to be the main event in the opening playdate of the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup Cup next week.
The league revealed that it will have the Elasto Painters and the Road Warriors as the main event of their Mar. 17 playdate at 7 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Preceding that will be an encounter between Meralco and Mahindra, two teams who both missed the playoffs in the Philippine Cup. The match takes place at 4:15 p.m.
After Guiao left Rain or Shine for NLEX, the teams have only met once last conference with the Elasto Painters scoring one over their former mentor, 107-97.
What’s more interesting and intriguing this time around is that the Painters won’t only face their old mentor but also their old import.
Former Rain or Shine import Wayne Chism is now a part of NLEX as Guiao tapped him again while the Painters will have returning import Shawn Taggart in their corner.
Philippine Cup finalists San Miguel Beer and Barangay Ginebra, who just finished their All-Filipino titular showdown last Sunday with the Beermen taking their third straight championship there, won’t play until the eighth playdate of the tournament as they were given several days off.
The next day on Mar. 18, the scene shifts to Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City with another twin-bill.
Phoenix is set to take on Blackwater at 3 p.m to be followed by a clash between Alaska and GlobalPort at 5:15 p.m.
