FOUR teams are now gearing up for the UNTV Cup Season 5 semifinals starting on Feb. 12 at the Pasig City Sports Arena.

Malacanang Kamao pounded the AFP Cavaliers, 73- 54, to advance to the semis against a waiting rookie Bureau of Customs team.

“Today, I had the quickest huddle with them (Kamao). I told them to help and trust each other — and you see that on the court. Maybe we just enjoyed the game. That is what I have been preaching: to restore what we have started because the talent and the effort are already there,” said Kamao coach Louie Gonzales.

Coach Sonny Manucat’s Cavaliers promise to bounce back strong next season.

“I have to give credit to Malacañang. Siguro nakapag-prepare sila nang husto pero babawi kami. We’ll take it one game at a time pa rin and get ready for the next season,” Manucat III said,

In the other quarterfinal match, the Responders whipped the Firefighters, 82-70, to arrange a semifinal clash with the seasons 1 and 3 champions Judiciary Magis.

“'Yung composure, at the same time, maglaro sila as a team. At the same time, unang una, 'yung depensa, so nag-materialize naman 'yung preparation namin against BFP,” PNP Head Coach Ernie Sta. Cruz.

The Firemen settled for a 6-5 record, with coach Ramon Garcia proud of his side’s performance.

“Perhaps we can say we are at par with the other teams. We were able to show a good performance this season,” Garcia said.
