Digital Media: Laptops for casual gamers

If you are a gamer, you are probably aware of the never-ending debate between “hardcore” and “casual” gamers, with the former blaming the decline in the quality of games (even the big franchise titles) to please and attract more “casuals.”

First lets try to distinguish the difference between “hardcore” and “casual”—“try” being the operative word since there are as many types of gamer as there are games.

“Hardcore” gamer play games a lot. A lot more, perhaps, than they probably do anything else. Game software is their choice of entertainment medium, and rather than get excited with the latest TV season of The Walking Dead or Game of Thrones they are waiting for its game versions instead. When they are not playing, hardcore ones are reading magazines about games, surfing the web for news about games, and Datablitz is their favorite shopping outlet. Gaming is their life, and they dedicate most of their time to playing their favorite titles.

On the other hand, casual gamers, they say, are those that are not too “dedicated.” They may play games a lot of time but they also have other hobbies like watching TV, reading books and a lot of other things. In short, gaming is just one of their hobbies.

GAME ON. American computer company Dell launches Dell Inspiron 15 7000, which comes with specs suitable for hardcore gaming.

However, “dedication” can be a complex thing, if one plays only Pokemon Go and nothing else, does it make them a hardcore gamer for trying to collect all the Pokemon or just a casual since they are only playing a single game? If you only play video games on a mobile phone or tablet, are you a casual gamer? But what if you play these games for countless hours, every day?

But whatever the argument or distinction, one cannot deny that casual gamers are here to stay and their numbers are steadily growing. And while casual gamers may eventually evolve into hardcore ones, gamers who use to play all the time may also eventually play less because of work or some other “call of duty.”

Recognizing this growth, Dell Philippines recently launched its first line of laptops that are dedicated to casual gamers. The Dell Inspiron 15 7000 series is the most powerful Inspiron laptop made and has the specs to play most current gaming titles.

The Inspiron 15 7000 series laptop comes with serious specs for your gaming needs, but doesn’t look like an alien spaceship.

The new Dell Inspiron 15 Gaming laptop is packed with powerful Intel Quad Core processor and latest NVIDIA  GeForce  graphics for immersive gaming experience, plus a pro-grade cooling system with dual fans keeps everything cool and running at full power while playing

There are currently two variants to choose from — one with a Full HD display and one with UHD panel plus beefier specs.

“Before, gamers used a couple of computers: a laptop for work and a desktop for play. This new series confirms our commitment towards growing and engaging our customers who require a powerful laptop for productivity and social media purposes but also allows them to play most of the latest games on one device,” says Dell Country Manager Chris Papa.

Papa adds the new series is also perfect for students studying game development, “Game development industry in the Philippines continues to grow and the growing number of colleges and universities in the country offering formal game development courses means we’ll see a large number of developers and game enthusiasts in the near future.”

“Game developers and enthusiasts expect outstanding outcome of creative works and performance that demonstrate true professional quality and at the same time bringing rich entertainment experience to life. This new Inspiron gaming laptop is the essential device for them,” he adds.

To keep things running smoothly, the extra-capacity heat exchangers are connected by oversized piping to dual cooling fans with high-efficiency blade pitch. These are engineered specifically to handle Intel’s latest 6th Gen H-series quadcore mobile CPUs, NVIDIA’s latest GeForce GTX 960M (15) discrete graphic with 4 GB of blazing fast GDDR5 memory and up to 1 TB conventional or dual-drive M.2 128 GB and 1 TB HDD configurations. That kind of muscle easily handles the latest gaming titles or industrial-grade video editing.

Its 6-cell 74WHr battery can power your favorite games or uninterrupted creative works up to 13.5 hours.
