FAR Eastern University officials confirmed on the school’s official website the appointment of Rodericko “Olsen” Racela as the new head coach of the Tamaraws in the coming 80th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s basketball tournament.

The team’s former head coach, Nash Racela, Olsen’s brother, will stay on as a consultant of the FEU basketball program.

Nash, who handled the Tamaraws for four years, is now the head coach of TNT KaTropa in the PBA.

“It’s a great opportunity for me. I’m here to continue the program of coach Nash,” said Olsen, who is a year older than Nash.

The 46-year-old Racela had an 18-year playing career in the PBA and was around to help win nine titles for Purefoods and San Miguel. He was also five time mythical team member.

He then handled the Petron Blaze Boosters in the PBA from 2012-2013.

At the moment, he is an assistant coach to Tim Cone with Barangay Ginebra.
