The Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a case of disobedience against Senator Leila De Lima.
This comes, a week after leaders of the House of Representatives filed a complaint at the DOJ against the senator.
The issue stems from De Lima’s failure to heed the summon of the House asking her to attend the House Justice Committee’s hearing on the proliferation of illegal drug trade in New Bilibid Prison.
House leaders had also wanted her penalized for supposedly discouraging her security aide Ronnie Dayan from attending the same inquiry.
It took the DOJ a week to make a ruling on the complaint.
The decision to charge De Lima in court for disobedience was handed down in a resolution issued by DOJ Prosecutor George Catalan.
Disobedience is considered a light offense so the DOJ did not deem it necessary to ask De Lima to file a counter-affidavit.
It only conducted summary proceedings on the case.
