Ph Azkals confident of scoring

THERE will be many chances for the Philippine Azkals national men’s football to score in the coming Asean Football Federation-Suzuki Cup 2016, which is set to start this weekend at the Philippine Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Coach Thomas Dooley gained a variety of choices with the addition of Fil-Iranian Misagh Bahadoran in the mix.

The 5’9” Fil-Iranian will be among the team’s strikers this strikers this time around.

And for Bahadoran, this is a dream come true.

“I wanted to play striker for a long time. It’s the coach’s decision,” said the 29-year-old Bahadoran during Saturday’s AFF-Suzuki Cup Trophy Tour  at the SM City-North Edsa in Quezon City.

He will be among the guys who Dooley will call to lead the Azkals’s offense, along with Fil-German Mike Ott, Javier Patino and Stephan Schrock.

“Together, we can make some chances for the team,” added Bahadoran.

The Azkals will have their opening match at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Suzuki Philippines’ GM for Automobile Shuzo Hoshikura said he is positive about the Azkals’ chances this year, considering that they are the no. 1-ranked team in the region.

“We are lucky to have to an opportunity to support this tournament, considering that the Philippine market is important for football,” said Hoshikura.

The Singaporeans are coached by V. Sundramoorthy, who expressed their side will recover from their slump ahead of the encounter with the Azkals.

The Lions who are to meet  Cambodia in their final friendly last night, took a 0-2 loss to Syria on Wednesday night.
