The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) places Mayon Volcano in Legazpi, Albay on Alert Level 1.
Phivolcs Region 5 Science Research Analyst Alex Baloloy says, this is due to the increase in the volcano’s sulfur dioxide emission.

Baloloy notes, Mayon’s volume of gas emission has gone up from 500 tons a day to more than 1,000 tons a day.
He adds, this development can’t be seen with the naked eye and only monitoring instruments can detect the activity.
Baloloy is advising residents and tourists to avoid entering the volcano’s 6-kilometer permanent danger zone.
