The Senate Committee on Public Order and Safety is conducting an ‘organizational meeting’ and an inquiry on the campaign of the Philippine National Police against illegal drugs and the deaths linked to these operations.
PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa is among the resource persons attending the meeting.
Senator Grace Poe began the proceeding by asking Dela Rosa why the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) is not being headed by a civilian.
The PNP IAS is tasked to investigate if police are following protocols in conducting operations.
Dela Rosa told Poe that he is still cleaning up the ranks of the PNP and its offices.
He promises that once the police reorganization is complete, he will put a civilian in charge of PNP IAS.
Also attending the meeting is Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Director General Isidro Lapeña.
The committee is headed by Senator Panfilo Lacson.
