‘My Husband’s Lover’ on Fox Filipino

FOX Filipino announced that one of the most talked about local drama series in the country, My Husband’s Lover, is now on the pay TV channel. This groundbreaking series that follows the story of a woman’s awakening to her husband’s hidden sexuality is shown weeknights, with back-to-back episodes from Monday to Friday, 7 to 8:50 p.m.. Fans of My Husband’s Lover can also get their fill of this critically acclaimed drama on weekdays when the channel airs the replays from 7 to 9 a.m. and with marathons from 9 a.m. to 5: 55 p.m. every Saturday.

My Husband’s Lover centers on the story of Lally (Carla Abellana), a woman who marries at a young age when her boyfriend Vincent got her pregnant. Vincent in turn strives to become a good husband. 

Despite his good intentions, Vincent (Tom Rodriguez) hides a secret and it threatens his marriage. It’s his unshakeable attraction to men. 

When Vincent encounters his old love Eric (Dennis Trillo), who is openly gay, he slides into a passionate affair with him that even Lally can’t ignore in her innocent devotion to her husband. Lally refuses to give up on her marriage and the future of their children, and she makes a bold decision that will change her life, Vincent’s, and Eric’s forever.

On its first run, the series gained generally positive reviews from critics and viewers for its portrayal of tolerance, forgiveness, and a side of marriage rarely seen on Philippine television. My Husband’s Lover was also given recognition by various local and international award-giving institutions, including a “highly commended” distinction for Trillo’s portrayal as Eric at the prestigious Asian Television Awards. It was also nominated in the Telenovela category at the International Emmy Awards, which recognizes television production excellence outside the US.

Anita Awards for Cinema names ‘Heneral Luna’ Best Picture 

The tragic story of Filipino patriot General Antonio Luna and the events that surrounded the outbreak of the Philippine-American War, Heneral Luna, produced by Artikulo Uno Productions, was named Best Picture at the first Anita Awards for Cinema given by the Society of Film Enthusiasts (SOFIE).  

The film topped other nominees Da Dog Show, Imbisibol and Honor Thy Father” and picked up four other awards including Best Screenplay (Henry Francia, Eduardo A. Rocha, Jerrold Tarog), Best Editing (Jerrold Tarog), Best Sound (Mikkl Quizon) and Best Visual Effects (Blackburst).

Francis O. Villacorta, charter president of the said cineaste group cited Heneral Luna for its “powerful evocation of the open secrets of Philippine history and a curious reworking of the fabric of historical drama to impact today’s audiences.”

Dennis Trillo won the Best Actor award for his richly textured performance in Felix Manalo beating nominees Lou Veloso (Da Dog Show), John Arcilla (Heneral Luna) and Buboy Villar (Kid Kulafu).

Alessandra da Rossi bagged the Best Actress award for her truthful performance in Bambanti beating nominees Therese Malvar (Hamog), Nora Aunor (Taklub) and LJ Reyes (Anino sa Likod ng Buwan).

JM de Guzman was named Best Supporting Actor for his layered performance as a migrant worker in Imbisibol besting Allen Dizon (Imbisibol), Bor Lentejas (Hamog) and Micko Laurente (Bambanti).

Perla Bautista earned the Best Supporting Actress award for her honest and quietly intense performance in Honor Thy Father. Other nominees included Annicka Dolonius (Apocalypse Child), Bela Padilla (Felix Manalo) and Tessie Tomas (Water Lemon).

Ralston Jover (Da Dog Show) picked up the Best Director prize over nominees Jerrold Tarog (Heneral Luna), Erik Matti (Honor Thy Father) and Lawrence Fajardo (Imbisibol). Jover’s work was singled out for its powerful imagery.

The Anita Awards, named after the mother of its founding chair, is likened to a mother nurturing her children in a parallel way to filmmakers nurturing their work.  The award ceremony will be announced later.
