SENATOR Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo are now statistically tied at first and second places for the May 9 vice presidential race, the final The Standard Poll showed.
At least 30 percent of the respondents said they will vote for Marcos if the elections were held today, while 29 percent said they will go for Robredo.
The survey, conducted by resident pollster Junie Laylo, covered 3,000 respondents of registered voters from 79 provinces and 40 highly urbanized cities.
Conducted from April 27 to May 1, the survey has a nationwide margin of error of +/- 1.8 percent.
Senator Francis Escudero came in third with 20 percent followed by Senator Alan Cayetano with 12 percent.
Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Gregorio Honasan were tied at fifth and sixth places with three percent each.
Of the vice presidential bets, Robredo had the highest trust ratings at 49 percent, followed by Escudero and Marcos who had 42 percent each. Cayetano had 30 percent while Trillanes and Honasan had 19 percent each.
Marcos was the top choice in the National Capital Region (38 percent) and North and Central Luzon (59 percent).
Robredo and Escudero were tied for second place in NCR with 22 percent and 21 percent, respectively.
With a regional margin of error of +/- 4 percent, they were also tied at second place in North and Central Luzon with 18 percent of the respondents saying they will vote for Escudero and 13 percent going for Robredo.
Robredo took the lead in South Luzon and Bicol (35 percent) followed by Escudero (28 percent) and Marcos (22 percent).
The Liberal Party vice presidential bet posted a wide lead in Visayas with 46 percent, followed by Escudero (18 percent), Marcos (16 percent) and Cayetano (12 percent).
Cayetano and Robredo shared the top spot in Mindanao with 27 percent each, followed by Marcos (17 percent) and Escudero (15 percent).
Marcos was the top choice of respondents in urban areas at 35 percent while a plurality of rural voters (34 percent) said they will vote for Robredo.
Meanwhile, the ruling Liberal Party played down the poor showing of their presidential candidate, Manuel Roxas II, who was in third place, but statistically tied for second place with Senator Grace Poe.
“According to the most recent Laylo survey, Mar and Senator Poe are statistically tied. But this survey does not capture the movements that transpired in the past couple of weeks,” Rep. Barry Gutierrez said in a statement sent to The Standard, referring to this newspaper’s last survey on presidential candidates for the campaign period, conducted April 27-May 1.
The latest Standard Poll conducted by this newspaper’s resident pollster, Junie Laylo placed the administration candidate at 22 percent, still behind Duterte and Poe’s 32 and 25 percent.
Gutierrez referred to a Pulse Asia survey conducted from April 26 to 29 showing Roxas in second spot with 22 percent, still 11 points behind Duterte, who is leading in all surveys (Laylo, Pulse Asia and SWS) at 33 percent.
“Mar’s momentum continues. As seen in numerous other surveys, he has overtaken Senator Poe. This is now a two-cornered fight between Mar and Mayor Duterte,” Gutierrez added.
He also asked Poe’s supporters to switch and rally behind the administration candidate.
