TWO-TIME Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player and PBA legend Willy Miller said he is happy to give back by mentoring young children aspiring to become good basketball players.
Miller, who won his second MVP after helping the Aces win the 2007 PBA Fiesta Cup championship, said he is grateful for the opportunity to teach the basics of the sport which has been good to him and his family. He joined the pool of coaches during Day One of the JrNBA/JrWNBA Presented by Alaska National Training Camp at the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Makati, yesterday.
Miller will coach the final aspirants to become members of the JrNBA/JrWNBA Presented by Alaska All-Star teams. Fifty boys and 24 girls will showcase their dribbling, passing and shooting skills during the three-day camp. Ten boys and five girls will be selected to become members of the all-star teams.
The JrNBA/JrWNBA Presented by Alaska is the league’s global youth basketball participation program for boys and girls. Miller and the other coaches will not only select the members of the JrNBA/JrWNBA all-star squad. More importantly they will teach the fundamental skills of the sport and teach the children the core values of the game.
They will not only teach the children basketball skills they will also nurture the values and habits of hard work, determination, cooperation and integrity.
Miller is a four-time PBA champion (2001 Commissioner’s, 2002 Commissioner’s, 2007 Fiesta, 2015 Commissioner’s). He is a two-time PBA MVP (2002, 2007), two-time PBA Best Player of the Conference (2005 Fiesta, 2008–09 Philippine Cup), two-time PBA Finals MVP (2002 Commissioner’s, 2007 Fiesta), a nine-time PBA All-Star (2001, 2003–2004, 2006–2011), a three-time PBA Mythical First Team (2002, 2005, 2007) and a two-time PBA Mythical Second Team (2008, 2009).
Miller played for Alaska from 2006 to 2010 and was named by the franchise as one of 30 Greatest Alaska Aces Players of all time.
