In response to the statements of support and show of confidence in him, Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez (1st District of Leyte) issued a statement today thanking political stalwarts and parties for their endorsement of his bid for Senator.
Former President and Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada was one of the first to publicly name his list of Senate hopefuls which included Romualdez. Likewise, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte also urged his growing number of loyalists to support Martin while he continues to mull a possible Presidential bid. Newly-formed tandem of Senator Miriam Santiago and Senator BongBong Marcos have also included the Leyte solon in their list of senatoriables. Just this Monday, Vice-President JejomarBinay and his UNA Party released their list, which also included Rep. Romualdez. Romualdez also announced that while they share the same vision and stand on the same side in many of the important issues plaguing our nation today, that he will not be joining the Poe-Escudero Senate line up. But Romualdez expressed his appreciation and thanks for having been considered. He also shared that just today, the leadership of the National People’s Coalition just sent him another invitation to join their Senate line-up for which he said he is privileged to be a part of.
Martin added thatthese public statements of support and endorsements from many other local public officials is deeply-humbling. “Their show of faith and confidence in me only serves to strengthen my resolve to continue to serve our country to the best of my abilities and my “malasakit”. And I am thankful and appreciative of everyone who has recognized the relevancy of my message to bring back “malasakit” in our leadership, and in my case – as a Senator of the Republic of the Philippines.” he said.
I stand by my earlier statements that I would be supportive of any Presidential and Vice-Presidential, individually or as tandem, and any other candidate for other elective positions whose vision is consistent with my “malasakit” message. I remain committed to my message:
“Buong puso akong naniniwala na panahon na para ibalik ang malasakit sa pamumuno. Layunin ko po na maibalik ang malasakit sa ating pamumuno. Sa malasakit, sama-sama nating maiaahon sa kahirapan ang bawat Pilipino at ang ating bansa. Muli, ako po si Martin Romualdez, nagsisilbi at nagmamalasakit sa bawat Pilipino at sa bayan nating Pilipinas. Maraming salamat po.”
