QUEZON City Mayor Herbert Bautista unveiled on Sunday a plan for the redevelopment of Tomas Morato Avenue, a popular food strip.

He said the plan forms part of the effort to transform the South Triangle area into a major city tourism district, provide for sidewalk improvement, open bike lanes and install an organized parking zone.

He underscored the importance of providing adequate streetlights in the area to deter crimes, especially during nighttime.

The city government is also planning to set up a tourist information center in the area to provide local and foreign guests and visitors with information on some of the must-visit and must-see places along Tomas Morato Avenue, the mayor said.

As far as sidewalk improvement is concerned, the 2.3-kilometer pedestrian walk along Tomas Morato Avenue running from E. Rodriguez Avenue to Eugenio Lopez Drive will be paved with stamped concrete to provide a more walkable environment for tourists.

The city government will also install park lights and additional streetlights to provide illumination and accent to the area as Bautista instructed to adopt a beat patrol system ensure police visibility.

Bautista said 1.25 meters to 1.50 meters will be open as a bike lane along Tomas Morato in a bid to promote the use of bicycles as an alternative mode of transport.
