Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan has encouraged the youth, especially those in the secondary and tertiary levels, to continue patronizing the city library.

“Students nowadays rely more on the Internet and no longer spend time looking up or researching from books and materials in the library since the computers began to be their easiest access,” the mayor observed.

“Researching teaches the students to be resourceful,” city librarian Cora Noble said.

The city library has different sections including periodicals, Filipiniana, science, Mayor’s section, tourism information, games and “bulilit” (children’s) corner, and PWD.

The Caloocan City Library is located within the Caloocan City High School Compound along 10th Avenue.

The public library also boasts of being included in “Juan, Konek,” a project of the Department of Information and Communication Technology that transforms many public spaces into Wi-Fi hotspots. An online Public Access Catalog is also available for use.

The library aims to help students fully understand and appreciate the use of our city library and its resources; particularly, they hope to teach students the various sections of the library and the resources available in each section, as well as the utilization of the Dewey Decimal system, Library of Congress Classification System, and the card catalogue to improve the usage of the library.

According to the Internet the Dewey Decimal Classification System is a general knowledge organization method used for classifying books in the library named after Melvil Dewey, an American Librarian who developed it in 1876.
